Teresa Berube, Coordinator of Early Childhood Special Education Services
The Gretna Home & Community team serve children and their families from ages birth-to-age-five with special education needs. Our team consists of early childhood special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, hearing and vision specialists, and psychologists. The team determines your child’s educational needs by assessing all areas of development within their natural environment. Areas assessed include communication, physical development, self-help skills, social-emotional development and cognitive development. Intervention is family-driven and focused on the needs of both the child and their family. This is a voluntary and free program that does not discriminate based on race, culture, religion, income level, or disability.

During the 2024-2025 school year, Gretna Public Schools will have eight three-year-old and twelve four-year-old, half-day special education preschool classrooms. These classrooms support Gretna's students with special needs through participation in general education classrooms with other neighborhood children. Our preschool classrooms consist of approximately 50% children with special education needs and 50% neighborhood children who do not receive special education services. For more information about our preschool programs, please click the Preschool tab in the left column.
